I am so impressed with how smoothly our class has transitioned to second grade. Even though in second grade we have a little less "play time" and more work time, the students have been excited about our assignments and have had great behavior these past weeks. We have been moving fast in math, but are still taking time to review math facts like combinations of ten. This year, we have fun new centers like Tens Go Fish, and Tri-Fact-A. I am so happy to see students who were shy and anxious about school at the beginning of last year, come into school this year confident and with strong friendships. I am seeing the benefits of looping with a class, and I am so happy these children are the ones I get to do it with.

This year to celebrate Dr. Suess's birthday our students got to go on a magical adventure through the worlds of several different books. Little Red Riding Hood and Robinhood came to our classroom to deliver letters addressed to our class from Zuckermans Farm (Charolettes Web), Hogwarts (Harry Potter), Whoville (Dr. Suess stories), Neverland (Peter Pan), The Enchanted Forest (Snow White, fairytales), and Wonderland (Alice in Wonderland). Everyone had so much fun going through the different lands and talking to their favorite storybook characters. Hello families,
During our time in California, Seaside teachers were lucky enough to visit Golden Valley Public Waldorf school. Golden Valley is an amazing example of how a small charter school can grow into an amazing K-8 school with the help of parents and the community. It was so helpful to tour the classrooms and see how another public Waldorf inspired school is weaving together the standards and Waldorf philosophy. The time I was able to spend in the classrooms there inspired me and made me realize what is possible for my classrooms future. Thank you to all of the parents who helped contribute to our professional learning fund so that I could have this experience. It was so helpful to see a Waldorf Inspired school and be inspired to make my classroom as amazing as the classrooms at Golden Valley. Recently our class has been learning to measure objects and describe them using the words longer, shorter, and equal. On Friday each student was given a foot long string, and found objects in nature that were longer and shorter than their string. Students were happy to be outdoors on such a beautiful day, and excited to be able to measure and explore the "Pinecone Forrest". Soon we will being measuring with centimeter cubes and rulers.
